Our Water Safety Initiatives

Public Water Safety Initiative

Since 2017, Swimming and Water Safety Education has been formally included in the Victorian Curriculum F – 10. To help schools meet the requirements of this element of the Health and Physical Education learning area, the Victorian Government implemented two initiatives:
The first, is the Swimming in Schools Initiative, which is funding provided directly to Victorian Government and Catholic primary schools to deliver swimming and water safety programs.
The second initiative is the Public Water Safety Initiative, which is the engagement of LSV to develop resources and provide training and direct support to the education sector and the aquatic industry to deliver best-practice swimming and water safety education.

Swimming and Water Safety Online Toolkit

In consultation with the Department of Education (DE) and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), LSV is proud to have developed the online School Swimming and Water Safety Toolkit that contains an ever-growing suite of FREE templates, lesson plans, information and case studies for schools, swim schools and families.

All resources and programs have been developed to build swimming competencies and water safety knowledge to support students achieve the Victorian Water Safety Certificate (VWSC) by the end of primary school in line with the Victorian Curriculum F – 10 Health and Physical Education learning area.
