Super Surf Teams League - VIC Blues

Name Club How long have you been involved in lifesaving? Favourite discipline/sport How have your sport skills translated to your role as a patrolling lifesaver? What are your goals for the season?
Ben Harris Torquay How long have you been involved in lifesaving? I have been a part of surf lifesaving for 15 years now (since I was 6, starting at u/7 Jan Juc nippers) and haven’t looked back since I love board paddling, so the easiest answer would be to say that the board race would be my favourite discipline, but my favourite events are definitely the team events such as board relay, 6-man Taplin relay and ski relays. Because of my love for the sport this has abled me to take different paths in the lifesaving scene. My skills from the sport have led me to become the best version of a lifesaver and lifeguard that I can be. Because of the sport and all my time spent in the water training and surfing, I’ve been able to translate my knowledge of the water that I’ve developed to help patrol the beaches whether that be lifeguarding or volunteering. My goals for this season are to make the open board final again at Aussies in Scarborough. I also want to win the board relays and Taplin’s with my teammates at Vic states.

Name Club How long have you been involved in lifesaving? Favourite discipline/sport How have your sport skills translated to your role as a patrolling lifesaver? What are your goals for the season?
Caitlin Huell Torquay SLSC 13 years Surf Swim and Board races I feel I am confidently able to assist others in the water as I have proficient swimming and boarding skills. As a lifesaver at Torquay beach, there have been numerous situations where people get into trouble in rips and require to be rescued quickly. I have good awareness of surf conditions and ability to respond quickly to people in need. To come in the top 3 females in the Open Surf and Open Board at the upcoming 2023 Victorian Lifesaving Championships. To final in the Australian Surf titles for the female surf race. To develop my ski skills so I can participate in the Coolangatta Gold long course event which has always been an aspiration of mine.

My goal this season is to make the board final at Aussies Scarborough.
